Starting Line to Little Crater Lake Aid Station.

The mileage above is actually a little misleading. I think the 6.1 miles is into the aid station, around the loop and back out the aid station to the PCT trail. The next aid station, which is 3 miles away is measured from the PCT trail on.

Overview
This section is pretty flat with a great running surface. Still there are quite a few roots and rocks. In the early morning, a surprising number of runners managed to trip on this section. The scenery is pretty good, you run along Timothy lake for half of this and Little Crater lake is a neat deep hole in the ground.

On the way back, it can take forever to get back to the road. You actually run alongside another road and you hear cars nearby. You keep on thinking you are almost there. On the way out, I'd suggest taking a split at this sign so you can estimate how long it will take you to get to the finish.

As the sign which is posted here indicates, this turn off is not optional. Running into this aid station is part of the course. You are cheating if you do not turn off.
